Deepak Prakash, son of Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief Upendra Kushwaha, was not nominated by the NDA for the Bihar Legislative Council poll scheduled for June 18. Sworn in as Panchayati Raj Minister on May 7, he must secure a legislative seat within six months to retain his position.
Nine NDA candidates filed nominations on Monday for the nine seats. Prakash was absent from the list. No vacancies exist in the Council until March 2027. Kushwaha, who was in Patna, addressed reporters after nominations closed. He said the matter was over and extended best wishes to the NDA candidates. He denied any upset with alliance leaders and noted that his son would remain a minister as long as the NDA wished. The candidates include four from JD(U), four from BJP, and one from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). The Opposition RJD has fielded a candidate for one seat.
