The Cali city council elected Luz Arianne Zúñiga Nazareno as acting comptroller general on Thursday. The move aims to ensure continuity at the oversight body while the process to appoint a permanent official advances.
The election took place during a regular plenary session of the council, in response to an order from the State Council. Twenty-one councilors voted, with Zúñiga Nazareno securing 14 votes. The remaining votes went to the other four candidates.
Zúñiga Nazareno, a lawyer and licensed educational administrator, had already been serving in an interim capacity. After her selection, she said she would continue focusing on fiscal oversight and public contracting processes aligned with citizens' needs.
Council president Daniella Plaza Saldarriaga noted that the candidates' resumes were reviewed and six applications were received before the final vote.
