Charges against former Hato Corozal mayor for alleged PAE non-compliance

Colombia's Attorney General's Office has filed charges against Darío Yesid García Barray, former mayor of Hato Corozal in Casanare, for alleged failure to provide the School Feeding Program (PAE) in 2022. The service did not start on time and was only offered for limited days in October and November. This is provisionally classified as a serious fault.

Colombia's Attorney General's Office has launched a disciplinary process against Darío Yesid García Barray, the former mayor of Hato Corozal in the Casanare department, over alleged irregularities in implementing the School Feeding Program (PAE) in 2022. The oversight body states that the PAE, intended to benefit students in urban educational institutions in the municipality, did not begin on the scheduled start of the school calendar. Instead of covering the full period, the service was provided only for six days in October and 17 in November of that year.

According to applicable regulations, the PAE should have operated from the first day of classes to ensure children's nutrition. However, compliance only happened toward the end of the school year, resulting in a significant delay. The Regional Instruction Attorney's Office in Casanare has provisionally classified this apparent omission as a serious fault committed with grave negligence.

This case underscores the duties of local officials in managing essential social programs like the PAE, which aims to support education and child welfare in areas like Casanare. The investigation will assess whether the delay directly impacted beneficiaries and could lead to further sanctions for the former mayor.
