Classrooms below 10 degrees in Aragón's educational centers

The Teaching Federation of CCOO Aragón has denounced extreme thermal conditions in numerous educational centers due to low temperatures, with classrooms not exceeding 10 ºC. The union criticizes the lack of measures by the Department of Education and demands immediate actions to protect the health of students and workers. They call for the provision of thermometers and the review of heating systems in the buildings.

The Teaching Federation of CCOO Aragón has warned about the harsh conditions in the community's educational centers during this cold spell. Teachers, students, and staff are enduring extreme temperatures in classrooms and work areas, endangering their health.

According to recent measurements, in Zaragoza's IES Andalán, Bachillerato classrooms barely reach 13 ºC, while CEIP Hispanidad does not exceed 10 ºC. In Huesca, IES Ramón y Cajal and IES Almudévar record less than 12 ºC, and IES Lucas Mallada stays at 15 ºC. All these figures fall below the legal minimum of 17 ºC for indoor work spaces.

The union stresses that "the right to health must be an absolute priority" and urges exceptional measures. Among the demands are the installation of certified thermometers in all centers, the review of heating systems, improvements in thermal insulation, and a specific risk assessment plan for extreme temperatures.

CCOO recalls that it already warned last school year about similar issues during the May and June heat, but the shortcomings persist. They have repeatedly consulted the Department of Education without response, and a complaint to the Labor Inspection has not led to actions, even though the deadline has passed.

In response, the union demands compliance with regulations and encourages teachers and staff to measure temperatures and report violations. "The Administration must prevent these health risks and ensure protection for both workers and students in all educational centers in Aragón," they state.
