Ecologist MP Clémentine Autain announced on Saturday that she will not run in the 2027 presidential election. She believes the Socialist Party has ended any prospect of a unitary primary for the non-Mélenchon left.
Clémentine Autain reacted to the internal vote by Socialist Party members who decided to limit their primary to party members and close partners such as Place Publique. She described the move as the «nail in the coffin» of the unitary primary.
The MP stated on France 2 that she did not want to «add one more candidacy» on the left. She called the current pile-up of candidacies «ridiculous, not to say irresponsible».
Autain said her goal remained the gathering of the left and ecologists. She did not rule out supporting Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the autumn if he remained the leading left-wing candidate in polls.
