The National Coordinator of Education Workers blocked three toll booths connecting to Mexico City on Monday as part of its day of protests.
Members of the CNTE arrived around 10:30 a.m. at the Tlalpan toll booth on the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway, where they held a press conference. Authorities expect around 800 protesters at that location.
The actions extended to the Naucalpan-Ecatepec and San Marcos toll booths on the Mexico-Puebla highway. The teachers ratified the continuity of the national strike that began on June 1 and announced they would strengthen marches in more than 20 states.
The demands include the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE Law, the return to the pension system without AFORES and a 100 percent salary increase to the base wage. The CNTE maintains a protest camp in Mexico City's historic center.
Michel Bauer, CEO Host City of CDMX, reported that the sculptures damaged by the CNTE march on June 11 on Reforma have already been repaired and will be relocated to the Bosque de Chapultepec.
