CNTE teachers held a march on Monday, June 1 in Mexico City to demand salary increases and the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE Law.
The demonstration began around 9:00 a.m. from the Ángel de la Independencia toward the Zócalo. Members of the CNTE and Ceteg tried to knock down metal barriers on 20 de Noviembre and Venustiano Carranza avenues, leading to a clash with police.
One protester was injured during the incident. The launch of firecrackers was reported near the Zócalo. Pedro Hernández, secretary of Section 9 of the CNTE, stated they would reach the Zócalo as many times as necessary to demand a dialogue table with President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Education Secretary Mario Delgado called for immediate dialogue and rejected the infiltration of violent individuals. Several central avenues remained closed, including Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida Juárez.
