Commuter develops app to monitor LRT and MRT trains

A 28-year-old software engineer from Cavite has built TrainSight, an app to track LRT and MRT train locations in Metro Manila. The platform draws on user devices and planned hardware trackers to give commuters real-time updates.

RJ Crusem created TrainSight after growing tired of unpredictable waits at stations. The app currently covers LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3 lines and includes plans for MRT-7. It is modeled after Flightradar24 and aims to show whether trains are moving and where they are located.

Crusem said his team is discussing support with government agencies. The focus remains on releasing a stable version, collecting user feedback and making improvements after launch. He also noted that operators could use the data to address technical issues more quickly.

TrainSight is scheduled to appear on the Google Play Store in August and on the App Store between September and October this year. Crusem hopes to add tracking for public utility buses in the future.
