A couple has been found dead in their Cáceres home due to possible carbon monoxide inhalation from faulty combustion. The incident took place at Plaza 8 de septiembre, with their three teenage children in other rooms remaining unharmed.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in Extremadura's capital. According to the National Police, the likely cause was faulty combustion in the heating appliance the couple used in their bedroom to counter the intense cold. This hypothesis will be confirmed by autopsy of the bodies.
The bodies were discovered in the morning after the man failed to show up for work. A colleague alerted authorities, prompting police intervention. Upon entering the home, officers could not initially access the bedroom and had to force it open. Inside, they found the couple lifeless.
The couple's three teenage children were in the apartment but in separate rooms and unaffected by the gas. This tragic event underscores the risks of faulty heating systems during winter, particularly in homes with unreviewed appliances.
