A gas explosion hit the Jaguaré neighborhood in western São Paulo on Monday afternoon (11), killing a 45-year-old man and injuring three people.
The explosion occurred shortly after 4 p.m. in the area of Dr. Benedito de Moraes Leme and Piraúba streets. Around 35 properties were affected, with four houses completely destroyed and victims buried in the rubble.
The Fire Department confirmed the death of Alessandro, 45, who lived in one of the affected residences. Three injured men were rescued, including a Sabesp employee, and all are conscious and stable. Teams continue searching for a possible fifth missing victim.
Sabesp stated it was carrying out a water pipe relocation project and struck a gas network during the work. The company immediately halted the activity, contacted the Comgás utility and the explosion occurred while the technical team mobilized for repairs. Comgás said it received a leak report at 3:15 p.m., fixed the issue by 3:37 p.m. and denied performing maintenance on site.
