Tornado strikes Bombal in Santa Fe, leaving one dead

A violent tornado struck Bombal in southern Santa Fe early Saturday morning, killing one person and causing severe damage. Mayor Carlos Gabbi confirmed impacts on homes, industries, and roads. The entire locality remains without power as restoration efforts continue.

A tornado struck between 5 and 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, in Bombal, Constitución department, Santa Fe province. The phenomenon caused roofs to fly off, trees to fall, structures to be destroyed, and a total collapse of the power grid, according to local reports.

Mayor Carlos Gabbi confirmed one death, presumably due to the emotional impact of the event. At least five or six homes suffered major structural damage, along with cooperatives, sheds, silos, agroindustrial norias, and the Galpón Centenario. “We found a devastated town,” Gabbi said after touring the affected areas.

Local authorities urged residents to stay home due to risks from fallen high-tension cables and unstable structures. On provincial route 90 between Alcorta and Carreras, two large trucks overturned, restricting traffic.

Teams from the Provincial Energy Company (EPE), along with firefighters, police, and communal staff, are carrying out cleanup and power restoration tasks. Nearby localities like Montes de Oca and Bouquet reported similar damage. Several people were injured in the area, according to sources.
