Four workers die after inhaling gas in South Jakarta project

Polsek Jagakarsa confirmed four workers dead and three others with shortness of breath after inhaling gas from a water tank at a multi-story building project on Jalan TB Simatupang, South Jakarta. The incident occurred Friday morning during an unsafe evacuation. Victims are receiving treatment at hospitals.

Polsek Jagakarsa checked the scene at 12:00 WIB Friday at the multi-story building project on Jalan TB Simatupang RT 02/RW 02, Tanjung Barat, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The incident started when two workers were asked by their foreman to drain a clean water reservoir in the basement at 10:00 WIB.

While removing the cover, one worker fell into the three-meter-deep hole. A colleague tried to rescue without safety equipment and also fell. The foreman called for help, but rescuers felt hot air and shortness of breath from the tank's fumes, as stated by Kapolsek Jagakarsa Kompol Nurma Dewi.

The four who fell were declared dead at RS Pasar Rebo: YN (33), M (63), TS (64), and MF (20). The three with shortness of breath were U (42), AJ (42), and S (63).

The deceased and those with breathing issues are now receiving further care at RS Fatmawati.
