Crunchyroll launches as channel in Apple TV app

Crunchyroll is now available as a channel in the Apple TV app, enabling users to subscribe and stream anime titles directly within the platform. The addition covers viewers in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, coinciding with the spring anime season. Subscriptions start at $10 per month following a recent price increase.

Anime streaming service Crunchyroll announced its availability as a channel in the Apple TV app on Friday, allowing subscribers to access content without needing a separate app or login. Users can manage subscriptions through their Apple account and watch shows on Apple devices, consoles, smart TVs, and more. As noted by 9to5Mac, this marks the first significant new channel added to the TV app in some time. Crunchyroll offers simulcasts of new titles from Japan and a library of nearly 25,000 hours of content, including popular series like Solo Leveling, Demon Slayer, Gachiakuta, and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. Upcoming spring releases feature Re:Zero, One Piece, and Dr. Stone. The timing aligns with ongoing seasons such as the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen. In February, Crunchyroll raised prices across all plans by $2, with tiers now ranging from $10 to $18 per month. This move follows the service's expansion efforts, including a 2023 launch as an add-on on Prime Video and free anime channels on Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, and Samsung TV Plus. Earlier last year, the platform faced backlash over an AI subtitle error in German translations for Necronomico and the Cosmic Horror Show, where a subtitle began with 'ChatGPT said…'. Crunchyroll attributed the issue to a third-party vendor and committed to rectifying it.
