Senator Ronald dela Rosa is now at large following his escape from the Senate compound early on May 14. The International Criminal Court issued a warrant for his arrest over alleged crimes against humanity linked to the Philippines' war on drugs.
Dela Rosa, the former Philippine National Police chief, appeared at the Senate on May 11 after the ICC warrant became public. He evaded National Bureau of Investigation agents and was placed under protective custody by Senate leaders.
A shooting incident occurred inside the Senate building on May 13. Dela Rosa left the premises around 2:30 a.m. the next day with Senator Robin Padilla.
The Department of Justice issued an immigration lookout bulletin order for dela Rosa on May 15. Officials said he will face arrest if he tries to leave the country. NBI Director Melvin Matibag named Padilla and Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Mao Aplasca as persons of interest in the escape.
Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida confirmed the government will cooperate with the ICC. A special prosecution panel is investigating the Senate events.
