Preparations for Ethiopia's seventh general election have seen increased youth participation thanks to digital registration tools and social media. Officials say technology has made the process more accessible.
Asegdew H/Giorgis, head of the Addis Ababa Youth and Sports Bureau, said active youth involvement is key to strengthening democratic practices. He noted that young people are participating from the voter card stage onward.
Ermias Wendimu, secretary general of the Addis Ababa Youth Association, explained that the new system allows registration from any location. This change replaced the previous requirement for physical presence at registration centers.
Tekeste Ayalew, deputy president of the youth association, and young resident Melkam Benti both highlighted how social media has expanded access to party campaigns beyond traditional television. They said these tools have made it easier for youth to engage with the election process.
