Djurgårdens head coach Robert Kimby has identified four players as potential cornerstones for the upcoming SHL season. He praised their performances from the recently concluded campaign despite challenges like injuries and high expectations. Holm, Lindström, Blomgren, and Hudon each contributed significantly in distinct ways.
Philip Holm secured a new two-year contract just three days after Djurgårdens season ended. The 34-year-old defenseman, who returned to the club before the SHL opener, averaged nearly 20 minutes of ice time per game in the regular season and over 23 minutes in the playoff series against Malmö. Kimby commended Holms defensive play, confidence, and leadership in the locker room, stating, 'He plays with a swag and self-confidence... he has taken a huge responsibility both on the ice and in the dressing room.' Kimby expressed satisfaction with Holms retention and anticipates further contributions if he starts the season fully integrated. Gustav Lindström, a 27-year-old with NHL experience from Detroit, signed a five-year deal but faced lofty expectations after posting 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists). He averaged over 21 minutes in the playoffs, playing more physically against top lines. Kimby noted the challenges of transitioning from North America, saying, 'The adjustment is bigger than many think... we take small steps.' He remains optimistic about Lindströms growth as a vital long-term team member. Forward David Blomgren, 22, impressed as a center amid injuries, earning high marks late in the regular season. In 50 SHL games, he recorded 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists), including four game-winners, and contributed on the penalty kill. Kimby highlighted Blomgrens versatility, calling him a reliable worker who 'grows into the SHL costume' and handles multiple roles effectively. Charles Hudon, the 31-year-old Canadian with NHL pedigree, tallied 31 points (15 goals) in 40 games before a January hand injury sidelined him for six weeks. Despite a team slump in mid-season, Kimby praised Hudons early impact and post-injury resilience, adding, 'He does a huge job coming back after the injury... and still helps us get those points.'
