Director Doug Liman plans to shop his AI-generated film Bitcoin: Killing Satoshi at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The thriller stars Gal Gadot as a model-turned-reporter, Pete Davidson as a crypto millionaire, and Casey Affleck as a doctor suspected to be bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto. Production used generative AI for lighting, sets, and post-production to reduce costs.
Bitcoin: Killing Satoshi was filmed primarily in a car showroom, with real actors and outfits but AI handling the rest. The story follows Gadot's character recruited by Davidson's crypto figure to probe Affleck's doctor, who might be the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. Producer Ryan Kavanaugh explained the decision to embrace AI early, noting a practical shoot would exceed $300 million due to 200 distinct locations spanning Antarctica, Antigua, and Las Vegas. As reported by The Wrap, Kavanaugh said, “We realized we could bring down the cost by utilizing some of the AI tools out there.”
