A drug boat rammed the Audaz patrol vessel of the Customs Surveillance Service during a chase in waters off Almería. The incident took place in the early hours of the morning and caused no injuries. The occupants of the boats managed to escape.
The Audaz patrol vessel of the Customs Surveillance Service took the impact on a window next to the command bridge. Sources from the Tax Agency stated that the suspicious boat carried fuel drums. A second pneumatic vessel joined the chase and helped the crew escape.
The officers suffered no personal injuries, although the window glass was destroyed. The first drug boat was seized but could not be towed to Almería port. The events occurred in waters far from the Mediterranean coast.
This collision came one week after two civil guards died in a similar incident off Huelva. The Annual National Security Report notes that more than 600 drug boats operate along Spanish coasts.
