Two Guardia Civil agents died Friday morning after their patrol boats collided while chasing a narcolancha about 80 nautical miles off the Huelva coast. Two other agents were injured. Major parties have suspended their electoral campaign events.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. when two vessels from the Guardia Civil Maritime Service collided during the pursuit. One agent died at the scene and the second died while being taken to hospital. The deceased are Captain Jerónimo JM, aged 50, and Germán PG, aged 56, both with extensive maritime service experience.
The Junta de Andalucía has declared official mourning for Saturday. The Andalusian PP and PSOE have suspended all campaign events scheduled for Friday and Saturday across the eight provinces ahead of the 17M elections. The PSOE rally in La Línea de la Concepción with Pedro Sánchez has been moved to Sunday.
Pedro Sánchez expressed consternation and thanked the service of the security forces. The funeral will be held Saturday at 12:00 in the church of La Concepción. The event recalls the one two years ago in Barbate, where two other Guardia Civil agents lost their lives.
