Dylan Wu recorded a quadruple-bogey eight on the first hole of Saturday's third round at the 2026 U.S. Open after a five-putt at Shinnecock Hills.
Wu teed off at 9 a.m. local time and sent his tee shot into the fescue. His approach landed in native area, and after a chip he faced a 34-foot putt for par.
His first putt rolled three feet past. The second grazed the cup and stopped two feet away. Two more misses followed before he holed out for an eight on the par-four hole.
The USGA had warned players on Friday that greens would speed up to about 11 on the Stimpmeter and the course would play progressively firmer. USGA CEO Mike Whan noted strong winds exceeding 35 miles per hour that morning and said conditions would remain bouncier through the weekend.
