Egypt explores cooperation with Russia on childhood cancer treatment

Abdel Ghaffar described the center as a leading global institution in paediatric oncology and haematology research, stressing Egypt’s interest in expanding medical and scientific cooperation with Russia. The minister reviewed the center’s advanced treatment approaches, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapies, gene therapy, and stem cell transplantation. Discussions focused on training opportunities for Egyptian doctors in paediatric oncology and haematology, as well as potential collaboration in medical research, clinical trials, and advanced diagnostic techniques including precision medicine. Officials discussed cooperation between specialised childhood cancer treatment centres in Egypt, such as health ministry hospitals, university hospitals, and the Children’s Cancer Hospital 57357, with plans for reciprocal visits to exchange expertise. The talks also covered potential collaboration in radiology, nuclear medicine, blood transfusion services, and the management of blood disorders among children and adolescents. Health ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the efforts aim to improve long-term treatment outcomes.
