Comedian-turned-activist Eric Omondi has met Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir to discuss a 486-kilometre charity walk from Nairobi to Mombasa aimed at raising funds for vulnerable Kenyans. The Sisi Kwa Sisi campaign will start on February 10 and span four days, with the governor pledging to join the final 2-5 kilometres.
Eric Omondi, who shifted from comedy to activism in 2023, has expanded his grassroots philanthropic movement known as Sisi Kwa Sisi. The initiative has raised over Ksh 72 million since 2024 for various community causes across Kenya.
The new undertaking involves a walk from Nairobi to Mombasa starting February 10, with daily sessions from 6 am to 6 pm over four consecutive days. Omondi met Governor Abdulswamad to coordinate support, and the governor committed to joining the team for the last 2-5 kilometres upon arrival in Mombasa on Valentine's Day, February 14.
"This is what Sisi Kwa Sisi truly means; Kenyans coming together, walking together, and lifting each other up," Governor Abdulswamad stated on his Facebook page.
The walk will conclude with a lively event at Mama Ngina Waterfront, featuring local comedians, DJs, and musical artists. The campaign emphasizes inclusivity, often urging followers to contribute as little as one shilling to show the power of collective action.
In early 2026, the program grew with Inua Mama, targeting school fees for children of single mothers and widows. Previous successes include raising over Ksh 800,000 for a grandmother who tried to pay fees with six chickens from her farm, building homes for the homeless like James Ongoya, refurbishing classrooms in Siaya County, and mobilising Ksh 6.4 million for medical care.
During the 2024 protests, Sisi Kwa Sisi collected funds for the family of blogger Albert Ojwang, who died in police custody under controversial circumstances. However, sustainability issues have emerged, with some beneficiaries, such as Victor Juma from Mathare, complaining about the lack of follow-up support after initial interventions ended.
