In Hedemora, Erik has created an extraordinary henhouse featuring secret doors, 18th-century hinges, and an underground tunnel for his eight hens. Originally planned as a playful house for his own use, the project turned into a luxurious hen home due to rising costs. The house resembles Pettson's and is located in a village outside Garpenberg.
Erik constructed the unique henhouse with a friend skilled in house building. “I built it together with my friend who knows about building houses. I knew nothing before this project,” Erik says.
The house features hidden doors, clever details, and a secret underground tunnel. Erik has a fascination for secret doors, which shapes the design.
Interest in hobby hens is growing in Sweden. Since 2021, all hen owners must register with the Swedish Board of Agriculture, and the number of hobby hen facilities has risen 48 percent to 22,285 nationwide since then. In Dalarna, the increase has been 55 percent over the same period.
