Ethiopian Federal Police arrest human traffickers with Dubai cooperation

Ethiopian Federal Police, working with Dubai Police, have taken two dangerous human traffickers into custody. The suspects trafficked 105 citizens and collected over 188 million birr through deception. They also face charges of severe human rights abuses.

The suspects, identified as Dawud Teferi and Desta Tegen, had operated since 2015 by recruiting youths with false job promises. They sent victims to Dubai on tourist visas and held them in prepared locations where women faced sexual assault and torture.

Victims paid between 320,000 and 600,000 birr each. Once in Dubai they faced further demands for money, with threats of deportation when the two-month visa expired.

Federal Police also detained two accomplices inside Ethiopia named 1st Bezuayehu Awgechew and 2nd Rahmet Abebe. The investigation continues with technology support and direct virtual testimony from victims still in Dubai.
