FIFA irriterer TV-udsendere med sene kampstartstider til VM 2026

FIFA overraskede TV-chefer med udgivelsen af VM 2026-programmet: I stedet for de forventede fire kampstartstider er der nu 15 forskellige, mange om natten. Mere end halvdelen af de 104 kampe starter midnat eller senere, hvilket udfordrer udsenderne og fansene.

Overraskelsen var stor, da TV-chefer på Hilton Hotel i Washington fulgte FIFAs showbegivenhed via stream, hvor fodbold-VM 2026-programmet blev afsløret. De forventede fire kampstartstider – oversat til MESZ kl. 18:00, 21:00, 00:00 og 03:00 – men der blev præsenteret 15 forskellige, fra 18:00 til kl. 06:00 om morgenen. Det er tre gange så mange som ved sidste VM.

Mere end halvdelen af kampene starter midnat eller senere, hvilket er særligt hårdt for europæiske seere. For Østrigs landshold under træner Ralf Rangnick skal fansene slå klokken på 04:00 mod Algeriet og 06:00 mod Jordan.

I Tyskland ejer Telekom rettighederne til alle 104 kampe, købt i maj. De kommenterer ikke lige nu, men forhandlinger med FIFA er i gang, selvom tiderne ikke ændres. De offentlige sendere ARD og ZDF har sikret sig underlicenser til 60 kampe.

Problemet: ARD og ZDF må kun vise reklamer indtil 20:00 for at dække omkostningerne. For Tysklands gruppefase er det kun muligt 14. juni kl. 19:00 mod Curacao; de andre mod Elfenbenskysten (20. juni, 22:00) og Ecuador (25. juni, 22:00) falder i reklamestopperioden.

ZDF:s sportschef Yorck Polus kalder kampstartstiderne for en «rigkelig udfordring» for planlægning, logistik og redaktionel udførelse. FIFA begrunder tiderne med høje somrertemperaturer i USA og hensyn til forskellige TV-markeder; Qatar havde fem tider.

Sene kampe komplicerer også reklameindtægterne for Telekom, en af tre centrale indtægtskilder sammen med abonnementer og salg af underlicenser.
