Florida man avoids jail after tossing children over fence

A Florida man has avoided prison after pleading no contest to charges stemming from a September 2025 incident in which he threw three young children over a fence while fleeing police.

Larry Rada Jr. entered a nolo contendere plea to counts including child abuse, racing on a roadway, fleeing to elude law enforcement, and driving with a suspended license. A Lee County judge sentenced him to one year of community control followed by four years of probation.

The events unfolded on September 13, 2025, near Fort Myers Beach. Deputies attempted to stop Rada's black Infiniti for reckless driving, but he sped away, crashed into a ditch, and ran with the children. Surveillance footage showed him hurling the three victims, who were in distress, over a nearly six-foot fence.

Rada, then 26, was the father of one child and uncle to the other two. The children received hospital treatment for pain and vomiting after the incident. He was arrested at his home shortly afterward.
