Florida shopper charged after kicking 79-year-old woman at Walmart

Keri Estep, 34, faces battery charges for allegedly assaulting a 79-year-old woman in a customer service line at a Sunrise, Florida Walmart on January 23. The dispute arose after Estep accused the woman of hitting her cart containing a baby and then cut in line. Surveillance footage corroborated the victim's account, leading to Estep's arrest.

On January 23, at the Walmart on University Drive in Sunrise, Florida, Keri Estep, 34, became involved in a confrontation with a 79-year-old woman waiting in the customer service line. According to the probable cause arrest affidavit, Estep accused the victim of hitting her shopping cart, which had a baby inside, and yelled at her for being ahead in line before cutting in front of her. The victim addressed the issue, at which point Estep allegedly pushed her and struck her in the chest with what the victim described as a punch, per the affidavit: 'When [the victim] addressed the issue, the female pushed her and struck her in the chest with what [the victim] described as a punch.' Security guards intervened to separate them, but Estep kicked the victim in the hip. The victim reported no injuries but wished to press charges. Surveillance video backed the victim's claims and showed no aggression from her toward the cart or baby, contradicting Estep's perception. Estep left before police arrived but was identified by early March. In a post-Miranda interview, she admitted to a verbal altercation, believing the woman had 'shook the cart' and acted aggressively toward her and the baby. After viewing the CCTV footage, Estep acknowledged her perception was inaccurate and apologized. Officers arrested her and booked her into Broward County Jail, where she posted a $2,500 bond.
