Former Marquette athlete charged with multiple child sex crimes

A 21-year-old former track and field student-athlete at Marquette University has been accused of 12 felony counts related to child sexual assault and enticement. William Waterstradt, from the Green Bay area, allegedly used a false identity to meet and assault a 13-year-old girl he contacted via Snapchat. He is currently held on a $500,000 cash bond in Langlade County, Wisconsin.

William Waterstradt, a 21-year-old from De Pere who previously competed on the Marquette University track and field team, faces serious charges stemming from interactions with a minor. According to a criminal complaint filed in Langlade County, Waterstradt met the 13-year-old victim on Snapchat last year under the alias "Connor O’Neill," pretending to be a 17-year-old. The two exchanged increasingly explicit photographs before meeting in person for sexual encounters.

The complaint details three separate incidents in Langlade County where Waterstradt allegedly traveled to have sex with the victim. In one instance, he provided her with beer, and in another, he took additional explicit photographs. The victim informed police that she had disclosed her age as 13 to Waterstradt, expecting him to cease contact, but he continued without hesitation. Messages attributed to him acknowledge her age.

Detectives identified Waterstradt through Snapchat data, emails, photographs, and location information, linking him to eight different accounts where he posed as a 16- or 17-year-old. The charges include second-degree sexual assault of a child, child enticement, and use of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime.

As of January 17, 2026, Marquette's track and field website listed Waterstradt as a junior from De Pere for the 2024-25 season, with court records showing his address in Green Bay. However, a university spokesperson confirmed he is no longer enrolled. His attorney, Jonathan LaVoy, stated: “William and his family are taking these allegations seriously and I am in the process of obtaining police reports and other evidence.” Waterstradt, described by his lawyer as a senior, is detained at Langlade County Jail awaiting a preliminary hearing on January 21.

Waterstradt also ran on the De Pere High School track and field team.
