A 29-year-old student at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota faces felony charges after allegedly threatening to shoot members of a fraternity that rejected him as a pledge. Police arrested Romello Lloyd on Monday after discovering a loaded handgun and other weapons in his possession. University officials notified the campus community that the threat had been resolved.
Romello Lloyd, 29, was taken into custody by St. Cloud police on Monday and charged with two felony counts of making threats of violence, according to court documents. The charges stem from an encounter in a campus skyway where Lloyd approached a fraternity member, asking if the student had sent someone to assault him three weeks earlier. Lloyd, who had been rejected as a pledge, allegedly warned, 'If I find out who sent them, I will shoot them even if it is you,' and claimed he was 'dangerous.' Police reports detail prior statements by Lloyd boasting of owning a rifle and handgun, and referencing the Netflix series Squid Game by suggesting a deadly game at a traffic light near the fraternity house, where he would provide a firearm to shoot anyone who moved. Officers located Lloyd in class, where he denied the threats. A search of his backpack revealed a loaded Ruger Mark IV handgun with 10 rounds, a spare magazine holding 22 cartridges, a knife, and replica firearms. Court records indicate Lloyd had previously been deemed incompetent to stand trial in cases involving three stalking charges—one dismissed, two dormant—barring him from possessing guns. He now faces additional misdemeanor charges for firearm possession while incompetent or mentally ill. St. Cloud State University President sent an email to the campus stating law enforcement had addressed a 'credible threat,' noting Lloyd was not openly brandishing the gun and assuring no ongoing danger. Lloyd remains at Stearns County Jail on bonds of $1 million with conditions or $2 million without.
