Chu Yeon-hee became paralyzed in a 2008 accident but rebuilt his life through rowing and now competes on Korea's national para rowing team. He aims for gold at the 2029 Invictus Games.
Chu Yeon-hee suffered incomplete lower-body paralysis after falling from a fourth-floor building in April 2008 while serving as an Army aircraft mechanic. He was medically discharged and later studied in the United States before returning to work as an English teacher and curator.
Supported by family, Chu found rowing in 2024 and joined the national para rowing team. He won medals at the National Para Games and now trains with the Netmarble team while using a robotic leg brace.
Through Purple Heart, Chu shares experiences with other wounded veterans and advocates for better support. He plans to compete for gold at the 2029 Invictus Games if Daejeon hosts the event.
