Frölunda to retire Joel Lundqvist jersey number 20

Frölunda will honor former captain Joel Lundqvist by retiring his jersey. The number 20 will be raised to the ceiling of Scandinavium on October 17 during an SHL game against Skellefteå.

Joel Lundqvist played 20 seasons with Frölunda and appeared in a club-record 1,210 games. He won four Swedish championships and four Champions Hockey League titles during his career.

Lundqvist served as captain for 14 years before retiring in 2023. Frölunda confirmed the jersey retirement, making him the latest club icon to receive the honor.

"It is difficult to put into words, an unreal feeling," Lundqvist said on the club's website. "It is incredibly big and the finest recognition a player can get from a club."

The ceremony will take place in connection with the SHL match against Skellefteå.
