Garrett Crochet updates shoulder injury status with Red Sox

Boston Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet remains without a throwing timeline as he continues to manage left shoulder inflammation. The 27-year-old left-hander discussed his progress on the Baseball Isn’t Boring podcast this week.

Crochet was placed on the injured list on April 29. He has not started throwing since then, though he had briefly worked with plyo balls near the end of June.

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy confirmed the lack of change before Friday’s doubleheader against the Rays. “Garrett, there’s no change,” Tracy said. “He’s still doing a lot of work to strengthen the rotator cuff, so there’s no change as far as when he’s going to throw yet.”

Crochet said he has seen improvements since stopping plyo work and continues to be reevaluated every seven to 10 days. His goal is to return this season, though he acknowledged the injury has proven more serious than initially expected.

The Red Sox have won nine straight games and sit a half-game out of the AL Wild Card race. Crochet started six games this year with a 6.30 ERA before the injury.
