Glitched Chocobo Follows Players in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

A persistent bug in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth causes a glitched chocobo to follow players through the game world and into cutscenes. The issue has been reported since the game's 2024 launch and recently gained renewed attention online.

Players have encountered the stray chocobo appearing in unexpected locations, including during story sequences where characters collide with the bird. One user posted videos on July 9, 2026, showing the companion in odd situations that have spread widely on social media.

A GameFAQs post from 2024 described the same problem starting after a side quest at Gabe's Chocobo Ranch. The player noted the chocobo spawns near Junon and despawns when using fast travel, but otherwise trails the party constantly.

Square Enix has not issued a patch to remove the glitch as of July 2026. Some players have contacted support without resolution, while others have expressed amusement at the unintended companion.
