God of War TV series casts Thor and Odin actors

The upcoming Prime Video adaptation of the God of War video game has announced two key casting additions: Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor and Mandy Patinkin as Odin. These roles build on previously revealed cast members, including Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Max Parker as Heimdall. The series, based on PlayStation's popular mythology-themed franchise, explores the journey of father and son Kratos and Atreus.

Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios have revealed further casting for the live-action God of War TV series, set to stream on Prime Video. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, known for his role in Severance, will portray Thor, the God of Thunder described as a "mountain of a man who has weathered many a battle" but now haunted by past actions, drowning in alcohol and isolated from his family. Mandy Patinkin, a veteran actor from Homeland and The Princess Bride, takes on the role of Odin, the All-Father who appears unassuming yet wields immense power as a paranoid and manipulative leader determined to avert Ragnarök.

The series has a two-season order, with pre-production underway in Vancouver. It follows Kratos and his son Atreus as they spread the ashes of Faye, Kratos's late wife and Atreus's mother, while navigating themes of fatherhood and humanity. Previously announced cast includes Ryan Hurst as the grizzled warrior Kratos and Max Parker as Heimdall, the watchful son of Odin who possesses the ability to foresee events and seeks greater status within Asgard.

Ronald D. Moore serves as showrunner, executive producer, and writer, with additional executive producers such as Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, and Naren Shankar. The production involves PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. No premiere date has been confirmed, but updates are expected as casting and development progress.

This adaptation draws from the acclaimed video game series rooted in Norse mythology, promising a blend of epic action and emotional depth.
