Former Haas Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner has sharply criticized Aston Martin after its poor showing at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. He described the team's current campaign as not acceptable and below Formula 1 standards.
Steiner spoke on The Red Flags Podcast and singled out Aston Martin as his biggest disappointment of the race weekend. The team struggled for pace, with Fernando Alonso stopping on track and triggering a late virtual safety car.
"I think it must be Aston Martin because Aston Martin makes even Cadillac look good," Steiner said. "What Aston Martin is doing now is just, in my opinion, not acceptable. It's not F1 standards anymore."
He noted that team owner Lawrence Stroll has invested heavily but cannot get results. Steiner added that Formula 1 has no relegation system, so poor performance carries no further consequences.
Aston Martin sits 10th in the constructors' standings with one point, ahead only of Cadillac.
