Guérande: 280 caravans settle after nine-hour pursuit

On Friday 24 July, a convoy of 280 traveler caravans took position on communal land in Guérande after police abandoned efforts to stop them.

Loire-Atlantique authorities had been alerted after the group was expelled from Givrand in Vendée the same day. Gendarmes and the prefecture tracked the convoy throughout the day to prevent an illegal settlement.

By late evening, faced with repeated attempts, the operation stood down. The vehicles occupied a communal plot without further intervention.

Guérande’s mayor expressed anger, saying the state had left him facing the accomplished fact. The prefecture confirmed that repeated irregular occupation attempts had prevailed.
