Fire services in Dalarna advise against outdoor fires due to high risk ahead of Walpurgis Night. No fire ban has been issued, but several municipalities are cancelling their bonfires. Forecasts indicate extreme fire risk over the weekend.
Fire services across parts of Dalarna are advising against outdoor fires ahead of Walpurgis Night. Despite the high fire risk in much of the county, no fire ban has been imposed. Several forest fires have occurred this week, with warm weather expected on Thursday evening and over the holiday weekend.
Leksand municipality has cancelled its bonfire at the local heritage sites, and celebrations in Vikmanshyttan, Hedemora municipality, will proceed without a fire this year. "According to the current forecast, we are reaching the highest level, extremely high fire risk on both Friday and Saturday," said Robert Sundin, deputy fire chief for southern Dalarna's rescue service.
SOS Alarm is increasing staffing for Walpurgis Night and urges the public to call 112 only in emergencies. A large forest fire between Grycksbo and Bjursås was tackled with water-bombing helicopters earlier this week.
