The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) starting Monday, March 30, 2026, for 30 days until April 28. Registration will occur daily at Huduma Centres, IEBC offices and other locations nationwide. The drive targets 2.5 million new voters.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced a new voter registration exercise, offering Kenyans another chance to enrol ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday, March 28, 2026, the commission confirmed the launch of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) on Monday, March 30, running for 30 consecutive days until April 28. The registration will occur daily, Monday to Sunday, at all Huduma Centres nationwide, IEBC constituency offices, the IEBC Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi, county assembly wards on a rotational basis, and universities and colleges.
IEBC noted the exercise will not take place in electoral areas with scheduled by-elections or ongoing election petitions.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon, speaking at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kenya Media Sector Working Group (KMSWG) in Nairobi, said: “We are facing a big task ahead... We have prepared 12,000 workers who will start work on Monday, March 30, at over 30,000 centres across the country for this exercise.” The ECVR aims to address technical and operational shortcomings from the previous Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) by bringing services closer to citizens, reaching youth, and distributing resources based on data.
“We intend to register approximately 2.5 million new voters during this exercise,” Ethekon added.
Kenya Editors' Guild (KEG) President Zubeida Kananu stated: “As the country starts planning early instead of dealing with last-minute emergencies, the priority now is voter registration.” Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ) Secretary Eric Oduor highlighted the MoU's role in timely information access.
The drive coincides with youth mobilisation under the NikoKadi initiative and government calls for citizens to collect new-generation ID cards.
