The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set Thursday, July 16, 2026, for the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election in Nyandarua County. The seat fell vacant after the death of MP David Njuguna Kiaraho on March 29, 2026. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula declared it vacant on April 20.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) issued a notice on Sunday, April 26, 2026, confirming the by-election date for Ol Kalou Constituency Member of Parliament.
“By-Election for Member of National Assembly for Olkalou Constituency in Nyandarua County will be held on Thursday, 16th July, 2026,” IEBC stated in its official notice.
David Njuguna Kiaraho died on March 29, 2026, while receiving treatment at The Nairobi Hospital. He had represented Ol Kalou since 2013 in his third consecutive term.
Speaker Moses Wetangula's April 20 Gazette Notice declared the seat vacant under Articles 101(4)(a) and 103(1)(a) of the Constitution and Section 16(3) of the Elections Act.
The by-election is set to pit President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) against Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP). On April 22, ten UDA aspirants unveiled themselves before Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who urged consensus and promised fair nominations. Gachagua said DCP has at least nine candidates.
IEBC is also preparing for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election on May 14, 2026, alongside Porro Ward in Samburu County and Endo Ward in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
