A 56-year-old Illinois man faces first-degree murder and sexual assault charges after allegedly torturing and strangling his longtime girlfriend to death shortly after their breakup. Police discovered the body during a welfare check and found an audio recording of the attack.
Kevin D. Motykie is accused of killing 43-year-old Katherine D. Torbick at a home in Schaumburg on April 30. Officers responded around 9:20 p.m. after a caller reported being unable to reach her. They found her body showing signs of trauma and arrested Motykie in the garage. He had a pending warrant for a prior domestic battery incident at the same address.
