A Los Angeles clinic has documented sharp increases in anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts among immigrant patients since federal enforcement actions intensified in 2025. Zocalo Health, which serves Latino families on Medicaid, attributes the trend to the ongoing immigration crackdown under the Trump administration. The findings highlight a growing public health concern in affected communities.
Zocalo Health screens all patients for mental health conditions using standardized tools. Data collected since raids began in the Los Angeles area last year show more than half of screened patients experiencing severe anxiety that interferes with daily life. Nearly three quarters reported depression, while one in eight struggled with suicidal thoughts, more than double the rate in the general population.
