New Delhi: An Indian national was killed when debris from the interception of a ballistic missile by air defence systems fell on Sweihan Street in Abu Dhabi on March 26, 2026. Another Indian was among three injured, with injuries ranging from moderate to serious, according to UAE authorities. The Abu Dhabi Media Office stated a Pakistani was also killed, alongside an Emirati and a Jordanian wounded. The Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi confirmed the death in a social media statement: “Embassy of India expresses its deepest condolences at the tragic demise of an Indian national due to falling debris in Abu Dhabi today.” The embassy is closely coordinating with UAE authorities to provide all possible support. This is the first Indian fatality in the UAE since the West Asia conflict erupted with US-Israel strikes on Iran on February 28. An Indian was previously killed in a missile and drone attack on Riyadh on March 18, two more in an Oman industrial area attack on March 13, and three seafarers died in early merchant vessel attacks, with one Indian reported missing. Dozens of Indians, including workers and seafarers, have been injured across Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, and Iraq. The Indian government has prioritised the safety of its approximately 10 million nationals in West Asian countries, home to about eight million in Saudi Arabia and the UAE alone.
