Jill Scott announces new album after over a decade

Jill Scott has revealed her sixth studio album, 'To Whom This May Concern,' marking her first release in more than ten years. The project, set for February 13 via the Orchard, includes collaborations with artists like Ab-Soul and J.I.D., and production from DJ Premier and others. To celebrate the announcement, she unveiled the lead single 'Beautiful People.'

Jill Scott, the acclaimed R&B artist, is returning to music with 'To Whom This May Concern,' her first full-length album since 2015's 'Woman,' which topped the Billboard 200. Scheduled for release on February 13 through the Orchard, the album promises a rich tapestry of sounds and personal insights.

Collaborators on the project include rappers Ab-Soul, J.I.D., Tierra Whack, and Too Short, alongside producers such as DJ Premier, Adam Blackstone, Om’Mas Keith, Camper, Andre Harris, Trombone Shorty, Seige Montracity, Eric Wortham, DW Wright, and VT Tolan. In a late December interview on the podcast Million Dollaz Worth of Game, Scott shared her enthusiasm for the work, highlighting tracks like “Pay You on Tuesday” and “Don’t Play.”

“It’s a lot of living in this album,” she explained. “It’s a lot of revelation. Musically, it’s a full spectrum. Had some wonderful musicians come in. I feel touched all over, literally… The musicianship on this project and the people that gravitated towards it, I couldn’t be happier. I couldn’t have ever even imagined who is on this album.”

Scott's musical hiatus has been filled with acting pursuits, including roles on the CW's 'Black Lightning,' 'First Wives Club,' and a recent guest spot on 'Abbott Elementary.' She is also slated to appear in Tyler Perry's 'Why Did I Get Married Again?' for Netflix. Last year, she marked the 25th anniversary of her debut 'Who Is Jill Scott?: Words and Sounds Vol. 1' with a performance at the Essence Festival in July, joined by friends.
