Joaquín Sosa joins Colo Colo and praises Maximiliano Falcón

Uruguayan defender Joaquín Sosa joined as Colo Colo's second reinforcement to bolster the defense under coach Fernando Ortiz. At 23 years old with a broad resume in European and South American clubs, Sosa expressed his motivation to emulate the legacy left by his compatriot Maximiliano Falcón at the club.

Joaquín Sosa, 23 years old, joins Colo Colo after training at Nacional de Uruguay and playing for teams such as Rentistas, Liverpool de Uruguay, Bologna, Dinamo Zagreb, Montreal, Reggiana, and Independiente Santa Fe de Colombia. His signing addresses coach Fernando Ortiz's need to reinforce Macul's team defense.

"I arrive at a good time, very motivated, because it's impossible not to be motivated at a club like this... I come to contribute wherever needed and I'm very happy to be here", the Uruguayan center-back stated upon arriving at the club.

Sosa's nationality and position recall Maximiliano Falcón, another Uruguayan who played for Colo Colo in 2020, helping avoid relegation and winning six titles, including two Primera League championships. Falcón currently plays for Inter Miami alongside Lionel Messi.

"I know him and he was a very combative, strong, and fighting player. But I feel my strengths are playing with the ball, the through pass, and the long pass. I also have my own in one-on-one situations, and strength, because in Uruguay we're taught that, but as I say, I wouldn't know how to compare us... I know he left a mark and I'd like to leave something of that too", Sosa affirmed, highlighting differences in his playing style.

Aware of Colo Colo's poor performance in the 2025 season and the lack of international competitions, Sosa stressed the obligation to win the national tournament. "The players here know it wasn't a good year, but we're going to work hard to reverse that and achieve the objectives ahead", he assured.

Before signing, Sosa received references from Claudio Arbiza, a former club figure. "I got references from Claudio Arbiza, he explained what this club means and what Colo Colo is for Chile, it's a huge club. And he wanted me to come here and had told me that Colo Colo was looking for center-backs, and that same week the coach called me and that made me very happy", the player concluded.
