Josh Groban remains a student in his music career

Josh Groban returns to the Philippines in February 2026 for his 'Gems' world tour, reflecting on his early career from filling in for Andrea Bocelli at age 17.

In 1999, at a Grammy Awards rehearsal, Josh Groban stepped in for the ill Andrea Bocelli to perform 'The Prayer' with Celine Dion. At just 17, the teenager, dressed in a black suit, smiled at Dion and delivered his tenor vocals, marking the start of his legacy. 'I didn’t know who I was at 17. Nobody really knows who they are at 17, and yet I was given this platform with grand, emotionally deep music,' he told Rappler.

His global impact reached the Philippines with his 2001 self-titled debut album, where 'You Raise Me Up' became a staple in households and talent shows. Now 44, Groban brings deeper life experience to his songs. 'I know what a song like ‘To Where You Are’ feels like. I have people I can think of when I sing ‘You Raise Me Up’,' he explained.

Groban acknowledges career frustrations and sacrifices, like time away from family, but he loves connecting with fans at live shows. 'My purpose on this planet has been to connect through music,' he shared. He stays a 'student,' embracing risks like theater to maintain longevity and excitement for his audience.

He will perform his 'Gems' tour at SM Mall of Asia Arena on February 18, 2026, offering a wiser perspective on his musical journey.
