Kongen beskrev kronprinsesse Victoria som "ambitiøs". Da han blev spurgt, om han selv er ambitiøs, svarede han: "Hun er endnu mere ambitiøs. Forbereder sig grundigt på forskellige områder. Senest som officer i forsvarets forskellige værn. Det er stærkt."
