Lizzo discusses reception of new album Bitch

Lizzo has spoken about the commercial performance of her latest album, Bitch, which did not chart on the Billboard 200 after its June 5 release.

In an interview with podcaster Zachary Hourihane on Proto Pop, Lizzo described feeling stressed and sad after seeing the album's initial numbers. She said the project contained some of her best work but acknowledged shifts in the music industry and her connection with listeners over the past three years.

Lizzo stated she had to mourn the response before deciding to move forward. She added that she is already back in the studio.

First-week sales reached 2,649 copies with just under 2.7 million on-demand streams, according to Luminate data. Sales fell to 650 units in the second week.

The artist also addressed online references to the "Khia Asylum," calling the term a tool used to bully artists, particularly women.
