Becky Hill has spoken out after facing boos while debuting new material during an unannounced set at the TRNSMT Festival. The singer used the appearance to showcase fresh tracks instead of her well-known hits. She described herself as an artist rather than a jukebox in a follow-up video.
Hill performed a 30-minute set on the King Tut’s Stage at Glasgow Green on June 19. She announced plans to play only brand new music and introduce a new era, prompting some in the crowd to boo.
In an Instagram video, Hill said she wanted to bring an exclusive set of new music to the festival crowd. She thanked the TRNSMT team and fans who stayed until the end, noting that she closed with her tracks Afterglow and Disconnect.
Hill added that the reaction illustrated the challenges of transitioning to new material. She said the tickets were not sold on the basis of her name appearing on the lineup and stressed the need for new music to sustain a long career.
The singer is scheduled to release her third album Rebecca on September 25.
