Luleå municipality and Luleå Hockey have reached a letter of intent for the sale of Coop Norrbotten Arena to the club. The arena is presently owned by the municipality, with Luleå Hockey handling operations and maintenance. Recent years have seen debates over the future of the arena, adjacent halls, and surrounding land. The club has expressed a desire to invest in the venue, but the municipality previously viewed such expenditures as outside its investment priorities. Luleå Hockey's klubbdirektör Stefan Enbom commented on the club's website: “Det är väldigt glädjande att vi har kunnat nå fram till en principöverenskommelse, som kommer vara en bra grund för vidare förhandlingar med kommunen inför ett slutgiltigt avtal. Vi har hela tiden haft en konstruktiv dialog, med bred politisk förankring, kring formerna för ett övertagande av Coop Norrbotten Arena.” Fredrik Hansson, vice ordförande in the kommunstyrelsen, added: “Jag har lyssnat på Luleå Hockey och deras argument och efter det gett kommundirektören Anna Lindh Wikblad i uppdrag att ta fram ett beslutsunderlag för kommunstyrelsen gällande en försäljning av anläggningen till Luleå Hockey.” The reported price stands at 137 million kronor, as noted by NSD.
