Mac DeMarco delivers intimate and chaotic show at Teatro Caupolicán

Canadian musician Mac DeMarco performed to a sold-out crowd at Teatro Caupolicán, marking his return to Chile after eight years. The show focused on tracks from Guitar and This Old Dog, featuring a four-piece band and an atmosphere of humor and deep emotional connection with the audience.

Mac DeMarco took the stage at Teatro Caupolicán with his four-piece band: guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums. He started the set with 'Shining' from his 2025 album Guitar and introduced his bandmates first, defying standard concert conventions.

The setlist drew mainly from Guitar and This Old Dog, featuring expansive sounds prioritizing jazzy textures and keyboard layers. Tracks like 'Passing out pieces', 'Ode to Viceroy', 'Freaking Out the Neighborhood', and 'Chamber of reflection' sparked jumps and sing-alongs in the front rows, echoing the melancholic indie scene of 2014.

DeMarco engaged the crowd in a deliberately grave, humorous tone, moving unpredictably: he sang atop the sound monitors and walked onstage using his hands. 8-bit animations on screen matched the playful aesthetic, as fans lit up the venue with phone lights during emotional highs.

The encore featured the romantic 'My Kind of Woman', sung fervently by all, followed by a reprise of 'Freaking Out the Neighborhood'. Described as chaotic at times and melancholic others, the show highlighted the artist's honesty and bond with local fans since his 2014 debut.
